Conference is this Saturday.
Yes the last race of the indoor season is upon us. The boys have had a three week break from competition and should be ready to bust out. This will be the last indoor race for the doomed parkland conference so any records set on Saturday will stand forever.
Shorewood is the official host school and the events will once again be at UWM. Bill has been lining up volunteers and has probably asked everybody already, however if you have not been approached, feel free to call Bill and offer to help out.
The fun starts early and goes all day. If you haven't been to a lot of meets and you are trying to figure out when an event might be run the rule of thumb is that each race takes about 15 minutes. The longer races ( half, mile, two mile) will likely each have 2 or three heats. The sprints sound faster and shorter but they have preliminaries and finals ( also, they have fewer runners per race). For these reasons each sprint can take well over an hour to complete.
Field events are always run first because they overlap the track. The first running event is usually the 4x 800 relay and the last event is always the mile relay.
If you haven't been before, this is a great venue and the athletes really appreciate the support.
See you there.
