First Blush

The final Indoor Parkland Conference race was held over the week end. The memorial T-shirts were very cool but sold out early ( as did the subs). There were some official numbers in the Sunday paper but the Journal doesn't seem to have felt the need to post them online yet so we will have to wait for actual hard numbers from Dom and Sarah.

On the boys' side the meet started with a spirited 4x800 that featured our up and coming freshman class. Despite a solid kick from Jordan they came up just short. These guys will be good once they get a season or two of Cross Country behind them.

The ladies 4x8 smoked the competition and essentially ran their own race. While not a record it was a dominant statement.

The mile had everyone reaching for their copy of the rule book. However despite the muttering and furrowed brows no actual complaints were filed. On the ladies side Colleen lapped a slower runner by passing her on the inside. A legal move if there is room. It looked fine to me, but a disgruntled Slinger coach was still talking about it at 4:00 when I walked past her. Colleen by the way ran a great race.

The boy's mile filled up late. Dennis and John came straight from taking the ACT test and arrived just before the gun. John in particular ran in just as the commands were being given and set a conference record for changing out of his street clothes. Andrew won the race easily around 4:36. He missed the conference record by less than 2 seconds. Dennis was third at 4:50 (?) and John ran 5:00 even. Several coachs hinted that we deliberately delayed the start so that we could get our guys to the line, but in the end they decided that we probably aren't capable of pulling off something that complicated :).

Jake won the two mile and made it look easy ( 10:08 ?). He had more than four laps on some of the runners by the finish. David was second and Christian took off a lap in the middle but finished strong.

The boys' mile relay finished the day with a win. The relay featured the distance crew rather than the sprinters and they put up a very good time.

Pictures and real numbers will go up when I get them.

Congratulations everybody!
