A rare home meet

There is a meet scheduled for tonight on our track starting right after school. It is a quad meet featuring teams from Messmer, Riverside, Whitefish bay, and Shorewood. It will be a casual affair run by the athletes. The featured event will most likely be the 800 for the boys.

If you are wondering why we don't host more home events then you haven't been on our track lately. The surface is pitted and peeling away in spots; Enough that it is really not safe for a real invitational. The surface was further damaged a few years ago when a maintenance person ran an aerator over the track and removed a series of plugs.

Are there plans to fix this? Yes. Two years ago a former student donated $500,000.00 to replace the wooden grandstand and replace the track. Nothing has been done yet because "the powers that be" decided that what we really need is a 3 million dollar overhaul to include a new artificial turf soccer field, locker rooms, concession stands, a dome for the field, etc... Since no one has come forward to donate the next 2.5 million dollars everything is on hold.

So, enjoy the meet tonight, it may be the last ever held on this particular track.
